Nataly Horan Gutierrez is a Colombian-born, South Florida–based artist working primarily with ink on paper and canvas. Her practice explores presence, repetition, and the experience of time through slow, analog processes that emphasize restraint and imperfection.
Her work emerged from a desire to return to something tangible and human in an increasingly accelerated, digital world. At the center of her practice is the circle, a form that appears repeatedly in nature, from planetary systems and tree rings to cells, seasons, and gatherings. By stripping away excess and complexity, her work reduces experience to its most essential shape.
Each piece is created through repetitive mark-making, allowing variation in pressure, rhythm, and density to remain visible. No gesture is corrected. The process prioritizes attention over outcome, treating drawing as both record and ritual.
Nataly’s ongoing body of work, We Are All Just Taking Up Space, reflects on how individuals occupy physical, emotional, and spiritual space. Each circle is considered its own small universe, self-contained, infinite, and quietly interconnected with others. Some expand outward, others remain restrained, mirroring the varied ways people exist alongside one another.
Her work invites viewers to slow down, observe closely, and sit with uncertainty rather than resolve it. Rather than offering conclusions, the drawings function as pauses, moments of stillness that affirm presence as something that does not need to be earned.
